Black Friday [10 Nov 2007|08:57pm]
[ mood | plotting ]

OK, yes, it's a little early for this. But you know we love a sale, and there's actually some things we want to buy on Black Friday this year. So we've been going through the store ads as they get posted, and we're starting to plot.

The question for all of you is, does anyone else want to do the Black Friday thing? Our plan right now is to do Hagerstown, since that's close to us. I'm likely going to be in line overnight at Circuit City (or possibly Best Buy). But I'm thinking that if we've got some other folks who are doing similar things (or plotting daytime shopping trips), it might be worth organizing and all getting together in one area to do this.

Hagerstown is nice because all of the retail is in two main areas (with Best Buy, Circuit City, Home Depot, and Walmart all right next to each other), and those two areas are only about 4 miles apart along I-81. If we've got a group of people spread out at several stores, we can keep each other company, have someone floating between stores for potty breaks and food runs, and generally make it more pleasant. Plus it means faster runs between stores where needed (and less parking shuffle a lot of the time). And we can split up trips (I'll get X, Y, and Z for you at this store if you get A, B, and C at the other store and we'll sort out the money later).

We're planning on possibly renting a moving truck, since we're talking about getting a TV, possibly a washer/dryer pair (for the business), and several other things. We could easily all share a truck for pickups and split the cost. We can also have crash space at our house Thursday & Friday nights. Shared child care might be a possibility too (though we have daycare for Bella at 6:30am).

So click here and take the poll! )

Friends Only [12 Sep 2006|11:24am]
I've just finished setting my LJ as friends only. I'm not doing this because I'm trying to hide things from anyone, but just because I say a lot of things in here that aren't neccessarily for any random person. If you read my journal but you haven't friended me, you'll have to ask to be added.

Time to fry a turkey! [18 Nov 2005|08:35pm]
[ mood | hungry ]

It's the time of year for turkey, which means it's also the time of year to fry one. Since [info]ilostonjeopardy's dad taught me how to fry a turkey 5 years ago, I've taken his notes and revised them after each turkey. After last Christmas, I didn't have to revise them, which is a bit of a milestone. So here are are instructions on how to fry a turkey safely and with much tasty.

Walt Disney World - Backstage Magic [06 Mar 2004|02:04pm]
[ mood | relaxed ]
[ music | "Until She Comes" - Psychadelic Furs ]

This is a very long post, detailing the Backstage Magic tour that [info]ilostonjeopardy and I took this past Monday at Walt Disney World. The tour takes you through the backstage and restricted areas in parts of WDW, and shows you how the magic works. If you don't want to know, don't read it. There are no pictures, because pictures backstage are not allowed. And I've not gone into every little detail of the tour, because there's just too much to experience.

Starting off in EPCOT )

Moving on to MGM )

Towards the Magic Kingdom, by way of the North Services area )

Into the Magic Kingdom )

What is Reedy Creek, anyways? )

All in all, the tour was a day (and money) very well spent. I would have liked to have seen a few more things, like behind the scenes at a simulator ride, such as Star Tours or Body Wars (really, I'd rather see Mission: Space, but even many of the cast members haven't seen that). Or more of the utilidors under the Magic Kingdom. But it was still interesting to see all the things that Disney has done, and the sheer enormity of the infrastructure behind presenting the parks and resorts to the guests.
